Accessibility Statement

Designed toward WCAG 2.1 AA. Conformance has not been independently audited or certified, so this is a statement of design intent and of the testing described below — not a claim of certified compliance.

Features built in

• Keyboard navigation, with visible focus outlines on links, buttons and controls
• A skip-to-content link at the start of every page
• Semantic HTML structure with one main heading and one main landmark per page
• Accessible names on icon-only controls, menus and dialogs
• Descriptive alt text on images that carry information; decorative marks are hidden from screen readers
• A default light palette (cream background, charcoal text, plum and gold accents), plus a separate high-contrast mode — the dark background applies only when high contrast is chosen
• Reduced-motion support: animation and smooth scrolling are suppressed when the operating system requests it
• Wide data tables scroll horizontally inside their own region rather than forcing the page sideways

What has been tested

Last tested September 2026, on the pages listed below rather than every page of the archive: automated checks with axe-core at 375px and desktop widths; keyboard-only navigation of the header, mobile menu, dialogs and evidence drawers; layout and overflow checks at 320, 375, 768, 1024 and 1440 pixels; and internal-link checks. Testing covered the home page, beginner guide, organizations directory and profiles, comparison, fact-check hub, document register, treaty archive, international-law page, timeline, evidence, glossary, press and policy pages.

Not yet tested: screen-reader walkthroughs with JAWS, NVDA or VoiceOver, and testing with assistive-technology users. No independent audit has been commissioned.
